The town of Júzcar is situated in the province of Málaga, in the region of Serranía de Ronda. With a population of 247 inhabitants, it is located 25 kilometers from Ronda and 144 kilometers from Málaga.
Júzcar gained popularity in 2011 when it became known as the “Smurf Village”. This recognition attracts many tourists to the town, as it was chosen as the setting for the premiere of the Smurfs movie. To promote the film, all the houses in Júzcar were painted blue.

What to do and see in Júzcar?
The main tourist attraction in Júzcar revolves around the Smurfs, making the town an ideal place to visit with family for a fun and unique experience. Here are the places you shouldn’t miss in Júzcar, the Smurf Village:
#1. Mural Route
One unmissable activity in Júzcar is the mural route, featuring 14 different murals with renowned Smurf characters like Gargamel.

#2. Adventure Route
In the Smurf village adventure route in Málaga, you’ll find numerous family-friendly activities, including two zip lines—El Salto del Villano and El Salto del Gran Azul.
Júzcar also boasts two climbing walls, Ascenso del Fortachón (vertical only) and Ascenso del Gruñón (with ascent and descent stairs).

In addition to the above, we opted for something more adrenaline-pumping in the spectacular natural environment of Júzcar.
We ventured to the Sima del Diablo in the heart of the Genal Valley for canyoning. Naturally, we went with a local company and guides who knew the area like the back of their hand.
ℹ It’s a total of 4 hours of a route, filled with plunges, fun, and physical activity in an unbeatable setting. The cost per person was around €60, including all technical gear, wetsuits, and, of course, the guides.
#3. Hiking Trails
For nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, Júzcar offers various walking routes, including three with different difficulty levels:
#1. Moclón Route
Difficult: 🟢Easy
- Route Distance: 3,95 km
- Positive Elevation: 185 m
- Negative Elevation: 128 m
- Maximum Altitude: 652 m
- Minimum Altitude: 451 m
- Route Type: Linear
The Moclón Route is linear, nearly 4 kilometers long, with a medium-low difficulty—perfect for horseback riding or cycling, though the latter is more demanding.
It’s not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.
#2. Mills Route
Difficulty: 🟢Easy 🟠medium
- Route Distance: 1,3 km
- Positive Elevation: 56 m
- Negative Elevation: 56 m
- Maximum Altitude: 634 m
- Minimum Altitude: 581 m
- Route Type: Circular
The Mills Route is circular, approximately 1 kilometer long, with a medium-low difficulty.
It’s not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.
#3. Cliffs Route
Difficulty: 🟠medium
- Route Distance: 6,6 km
- Positive Elevation: 360 m
- Negative Elevation: 360 m
- Maximum Altitude: 1010 m
- Minimum Altitude: 632 m
- Route Type: Linear
The Cliffs Route is circular, with a length of 6.5 kilometers and a medium-high difficulty, demanding greater physical effort.
Individuals with reduced mobility should refrain from attempting it due to the challenging terrain.
#4. Viewpoints
As you wander through Júzcar, you’ll discover various balconies offering spectacular views of the Serranía de Ronda. We recommend the La Torricella, El Jardón, and San José viewpoints.
How to get to Júzcar?
If you’re driving to Júzcar from Málaga, take the A-7 to San Pedro, then the A-397. Follow exits MA-525 and MA-518, leading you to Júzcar.
The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes, as it involves mountain roads.
For those using public transportation, there’s a bus route from Pujerra to Ronda. However, this service is only available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with two buses each day, each in one direction.
The bus from Pujerra to Ronda passes through Júzcar at 9:45 a.m., and the one from Ronda to Pujerra passes through the town at 2:00 p.m. For any questions about schedules, you can contact the Júzcar Town Hall.
The nearest airport to Júzcar is Málaga, approximately an hour and a half away. If you fly to Málaga and want to visit this town, renting a car is the best option for flexible mobility during your stay.
